The Story
The ichimatsu checkerboard has been a Japanese design motif since the Edo period, named after a kabuki actor famed for wearing such a pattern. We asked our potter to render it in glaze rather than fabric — the result is a cup that tells a cultural story with every morning brew.

About This Product
Thrown on the wheel by a third-generation potter in Tamba, this teacup pairs the warmth of iron-rich Tamba clay with a precise ichimatsu glaze applied by hand. The squared dot pattern evokes traditional textile design translated into ceramics.
