For Beginner

A clear guide to commissioning your first website — what to expect, how it works, and how to get started.

  1. What is a website?

A website is your permanent address on the internet — a space you own and control, entirely separate from social media platforms. Unlike an Instagram profile or a listing on a directory site, your own website works for you twenty-four hours a day, communicates exactly what you choose, and belongs to no one but you.

  2. What does Shikishi offer?

Shikishi handles the entire process from first conversation to launch: strategy, visual design, front-end development, and handover. Every project is designed from scratch — no templates, no shortcuts. The result is a site that looks and feels like you, not like a theme.

  3. The process

We begin with a discovery conversation — usually an hour — where I ask about your work, your audience, and what success looks like for you. From there: a design proposal, a round of revisions, development, a testing phase, and launch. Most projects take four to eight weeks, depending on scope.

  4. Pricing

Projects are quoted individually based on scope. A simple portfolio or small business site typically starts around ¥150,000. Larger projects — online shops, multi-page sites, content-managed builds — are quoted after an initial conversation. There are no hidden fees; the quote you receive is the price you pay.

  5. What happens after launch?

Every project includes a handover session where I walk you through how to update your own content. For clients who prefer ongoing support — regular updates, new page additions, performance monitoring — a monthly care plan is available. You are never left without options.

FAQ

I have never worked with a web designer before. Is that a problem?
Not at all — in fact, most of my clients are first-time commissioning clients. I will explain every step clearly and make sure you understand what is happening and why.
Do I need to prepare anything before we talk?
No preparation required. If you have examples of websites you admire, or a rough idea of what you want the site to do, bring those. But the first conversation is mostly listening — I will ask the questions.
Can I update the website myself once it is live?
Yes. Every project is built with client independence in mind. I will make sure you can update your content — text, images, new pages — without needing to contact me every time.
What if I am not happy with the design?
Every project includes a structured revision round. If the design direction is not right, we discuss why and adjust. My goal is a site you are genuinely proud of — not just satisfied with.
How do I get started?
Send a message via the contact page. Tell me a little about your project — what you do, what you need, and roughly when you want to launch. I will reply within two business days.
